On Friday, I asked about the problems I had with the succubus and decided that as I'd feared :), the succubus was too obvious as the shapeshifter. So I knew I would have to use her as a red herring and use another person as the shapeshifter. I want it to be a woman, but it can't be Zakira because she was involved in Gorok's alibi. Also, it can't be Tamaldra because she was knocked out during the poisoning scene. It would be a good idea to have more women in there.

During lunch yesterday, I added a female guard named Rowena who patrols the boundaries on horseback. I also turned the guard Flint into a woman. (If Rowena did it, I would like to have a good female guard as well as the bad one.) And while I was there, I added a scene in Gorok's first morning in the prison, where Vik sees Gorok walking near the ancient city, and he angrily confronts Gorok about raping Wulf. He's the one who tells Gorok to go for a long, long walk (away from the prison complex) so that he doesn't have to see Gorok that day, and he warns Gorok that he doesn't want to see him again before nightfall. This is good because it creates more tension when Gorok meets Vik later that afternoon. Now Gorok has another reason to dislike Vik at first, and this also shows that Vik can get as angry as Jer (just in a more restrained way). It also gives Gorok good reason to worry when he comes back with Koura, before nightfall, and the first person he sees is Vik!
