On Wednesday, I went to the first class of the fiction writing workshop at work (the second semester). The class is going to concentrate a lot on character, which is cool. My turn to bring in a piece comes second. I was going to bring in the chapter where Gorok gets flogged, but Matt said he wanted to see the chapter where my characters meet. So he wanted to see the first chapter. My response was... flustered. This should be... uhm... interesting. Hee hee.
I have been going through the chapter a few weeks ahead of the class, just to decide what to sort of, uhm, sneak out of it before bringing it to class. This turned out to be a good thing because I'm finding lots of infodumps I hadn't realized were there. (And some I knew were there but didn't want to get to quite yet.) I skimmed through it and made some minor changes, simply for improvement (not related to the class, just stuff I happened to find.) I also marked spots that I wanted to work on (for class or not) with "xxx" throughout. Dang, how come I found so many spots I wanted to improve?!
Gee, what would happen if Matt wanted me to bring chapters two through fifteen to class? Imagine the improvements I could make!
