Progress on the Scarlet Pimpernel Outline

I found something odd while writing the Scarlet Pimpernel idea. An approaching conclusion! I looked back and realized I had written pages and pages of the bloody thing, without really realizing it. (All right, they were small pages because it's a small notebook, but still...)

The basic plot is this. Drake is a member of the palace guard, and Shade is the hooded adventurer who protects the prince from the machinations of the regent (the Evil Duke because I can never remember his name). After saving the life of the prince, Drake is given a position among the palace guard, working under the hated Lord Deering, who is the cowardly, drunken brother of the Evil Duke and suspected to be one of the Duke's evil plotters. In reality, Shade is Deering. (Drake only learns this once he is trusted enough to know.) Together, Drake and Shade fight evil plots, they fight palace intrigue, they fight their attraction to each other... oh, wait, they don't fight that last part. :)

The fun part with an outline is that you can suddenly think of an important character with a note that says something like "oh, yeah, mention her earlier." So Drake ended up with a strong-willed sister who will end up catching the eye of the prince (not literally, ewww). And Deering ended up with a supposedly bitchy wife, who turns out to be on Deering's side all along. Her scenes should be a lot of fun to write! The scene where she dons the Shade costume to rescue Drake from the dungeon should be a comic gem. As should the scene where the dungeon guard tries to execute Deering later in the story, but he's stopped because the ax gets stuck in the low ceiling.

Once this is done, my brain will be ready for... other things. :-)
