In the words of Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd...
"By the sea .. .
With the fishies splashing..."
Last week, I spent a few days at the beach with some of the family (parents, one brother, his girlfriend, and his kids). Even though I didn't spend much time on the actual beach, I didn't want to risk dragging the Palm and keyboard around and exposing them to the elements. That might have been a good thing, anyway, as the Palm ended up acting flaky a couple of times. I'm not sure if the Palm ended up getting turned on by accident a lot, or if it is simply dying, but the batteries ran out within days, although I only turned it on a few times. I managed to replace them without incident on vacation, so at least the new capacitor works in that regard. But then, days after I got back home from vacation, the batteries ran out quickly again!
The weather was so-so at first, but I didn't mind as much as some people on the trip (Dad!). I ended up doing a lot of browsing (and actual shopping) at the little stores in Lewes and Rehobeth and Cape Maye -- and the book outlets as well. I used the time to read some of the young adult and children's books I had brought along -- and some I had bought at the bookstores "by the sea." I finished the first two Spyderwyck Chronicles, the first book in the Edge Chronicles, plus the first Artemis Fowl book and The Amulet of Samarkand. As I finished books, I passed them off to my nephew as by now, he was already rereading the book he had brought with him.
I didn't get much writing done. I did try to write a few story beginnings. I also wrote a short ghost story based on the original "singer's ghost haunts lord who murdered him" idea that eventually led to Moonstone and Brodin. But of course, that idea didn't go precisely as I wanted. Still, at least I finished it!!! :-)
