Yet Another Belated Moonstone Update
I got all the way to the scene where the ghost of King Blackwood brings the palace ghosts to Brodin's castle and asks him to put his loyalty on the line and fight for the kingdom. I did struggle a bit about the timeline between the Brodin chapters and the Moonstone chapters. If Brodin was supposed to help Moonstone, the king would ask him to go to the palace and rescue him that way. But Brodin (a border lord) likely wouldn't have enough warriors to do so. So maybe they would have to travel toward Moonstone and the princess, hoping to meet them halfway once they escaped the city.
Then I fell prey to a Bright Idea TM
. What if Blackwood had recently become jealous of Moonstone, for some reason? Then maybe, when Blackwood was poisoned, he wrongly thought Moonstone was involved. So when he ended up at Brodin's castle, he told him to save the kingdom -- but not to trust Moonstone! Brodin would eventually have to realize Moonstone could be trusted. Then, when Brodin stabs him, Moonstone would have reason to think Brodin had decided to believe what the king had said. This would add an extra layer of conflict.
There was one problem. The king glared at me and said "I am NOT a jealous fool!"
Eventually I listened to him. Now I'm trying something else. This time, Blackwood thinks Moonstone must be dead by now (because the last view they had of him was in the dungeon, and the ghost can no longer see inside the palace as they were exorcised). So Brodin is given the task of sneaking into the palace, finding Moonstone's corpse, and trying to retrieve an important document Moonstone hid "on his person." (That's a nice way of saying it...) But of course, Moonstone is not only alive, he is also planning to escape with the princess and head for Brodin's castle!
It should be a lot of fun when Brodin is on a barge going toward the palace, and on a barge going in the other direction, he sees a familiar person on the deck...
