Happy Birthday to Marcel Marceau!
Genius mime Marcel Marceau is 82 today. So let's all celebrate his birthday quietly. ;-)
By the way, if you're one of those people who hates all mimes, you can draw the line at hating Marcel Marceau, OK? Hating Marcel Marceau because he's a mime is like automatically hating Shakespeare because he wrote plays, or something. (OK, my analogy is now slinking off and cowering in a corner because it's so badly written, but you get the idea.) Besides, some of us grew up watching the guy on TV, and I wish I had better memories of those performances.
According to Kate (a huge Marceau fan who has actually seen him perform live), he is attributed with saying, "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, ... for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!"
Anyone who can come up with a line like that is deserving of respect! He was also the only person to speak in Mel Brooks' Silent Movie
It's also the birthday of William Shatner. This would have been a good day for me to get his new CD, Has-Been. (By the way, it has getting good reviews.)
